Questions regarding National Lotteries Board Annual Report

Questions regarding NLB Annual Report

Since we raised the issues that NGO's are having with the National
Lotteries Board, it has been brought to the Democratic Alliance's
attention that there are some discrepancies in the National Lotteries
Board Annual Report for 2007.

One organisation has approached the DA claiming that the NLB Annual
Report states that they have been paid a certain amount, when in fact,
they have received nothing.

In another instance, the National Lotteries Board insisted,
telephonically, that they had paid out a sum of money to one
particular NGO, when in fact; the organisation had received a
significantly lower amount.

Please can you check the Audit Report attached above to see whether
your organisation has been listed as a beneficiary, and if the amount
received is correct?

Falsely reporting donation sums in the report is damaging for
organizations that rely on a number of outside beneficiaries because,
if it is reported that an NGO received R3 million rand when in fact
they have received nothing, or a significantly smaller amount, it may
influence other donors' decisions about where their funding is
channeled.

Please email bronagh@da.org.za , if the amount in the Annual Report
differs from what was allocated to you.

Also, kindly indicate whether you wish to remain anonymous.

Kind Regards

Janet Semple MP
DA spokesperson on Social Development
